HAVERI: An historic crystal lingam of Lord Shiva (spatika lingam) was stolen from the sanctum sanctorum of Renukacharya Temple in Lingadahalli village of Ranebennur taluk within the wee hours of Tuesday.
The dear crystal lingam, belonging to eighth century, is 13 inches in diameter.
Moreover this, the thieves stole 500 gm of silver ornaments from the temple.
The theft occurred when Veerabhadra Shivacharya Swami, pontiff of Renukacharya Mutt, was away.
“Now we have been performing puja to the idol of Renuka and the crystal lingam recurrently. Once I was at Kottur in Vijayanagara district yesterday, thieves struck the temple after switching off the CCTV,” the pontiff mentioned.
“I seen the theft after visiting the mutt,” the mutt swami added.
A case has been registered at Halageri police station.
